Ann and Jeremy Roberts, on their extended family imagery in central London
Family members from Australia- Scotland, 9 of us! We asked Mel to capture us with central London icons and what a fun morning we had! She planned a route that ticked our wishlist and one we could walk most of. From Millenium Bridge- Oxo Tower- Thames beach- Big Ben to Whitehall, we strolled. The four children loved her. The pace was great. She even left time for a coffee stop for the adults, whilst the children had solo and sibling shots. Mel has a great eye, aesthetically. She visualised the images before the day and gave us fantastic advice on colours for clothing. She knew the city in winter would be dominated by greys and splashes of red, so we dressed in plums, greys, taupes and deep blues. Our images are on her family gallery with our daughters’ beautiful tulle skirts. She married us and our colours to the cityscape and its red telephone boxes. The red, white and blue bunting she ‘borrowed’ for the kids from a street artist, totally on the hoof, was all part of the fun! She is infectious in her opportunism and enthusiasm. The images are unique. Could not have asked for more. Hire her!
Heidi and Marc Edwards, on their baby imagery at home, Southfields Sw18 London
Mel walked in all empathy. Our eldest, uncharmed by baby, greeted Mel by telling her he wanted to wear nappies again! She just shook his hand then took the baby, so I could shower. My husband asked if there was time to placate our son with pancakes, she took it in her stride. I did my make up, whilst Mel took solo shots of the baby. Afterward, she charmed our eldest with a game of hide and seek. She just kept telling us that it’s often a waiting game. Whilst we had solo and couple shots with the baby, our son began following Mel around growing more and more curious about this fun, patient visitor snapping away. In the end, he was eating out of her hand. We got everything we wanted. What I learned was that you don’t just hire a newborn photographer, you need to know they can handle the sibling too. Mel has kid skills, two boys of her own, camera skill in abundance and a really warm easy way about her. We will be back every year.
